Home Office INSTRUCTOR COURSE AT HOME OFFICE Departmental Instructors from agencies throughout the Chicago area and as far away as northern Michigan participated in the Level 1 & 2 Instructor Certification Course at the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Home Office in Elburn, IL on August 4-7. Situated about 55 miles west of Chicago (which translates to a 1-3 hour commute depending on traffic), Elburn's central location is ideal for officers coming for training from across the Midwest and beyond. Officer Andy Ramirez, criminal justice program instructor at the Wilco Area Career Center in Romeoville, IL, attended the course based on what he saw at a training demo that Controlled F.O.R.C.E. National Instructor Toby Flaget provided to the criminal justice students there earlier this year [Click Here for "Reality Training for Wilco CJ Students" article]. Now Officer Ramirez is certified to pass his knowledge of the Mechanical Advantage Control Holds™ and the M.A.C.H.-based subject control system to future law enforcement officers. Officer Tom Stepanek from Bolingbrook Police Department was trained in Controlled F.O.R.C.E. for the first time during the August course, and within a week of becoming certified, had successfully used his new skills on the street. In one incident, Officer Stepanek performed a M.A.C.H. 1 and 2 with good results on a subject that was off his medications and was fighting and biting family members. In another incident, Officer Stepanek performed a M.A.C.H. 3 on a subject that was threatening others with a knife. The technique helped Officer Stepanek to subdue the subject without injury, though, in the knife-wielding subject's own words, "I don't know what a number three is, but it sure hurt." Controlled F.O.R.C.E. thanks everyone that attended the training to become certified or re-certified. The next training scheduled at the Home Office is a Level 1 & 2 Instructor Course being held on November 3-6. All U.S.N.S.T.A. Members enrolling in this course can receive 20% off the regular tuition if they submit registration on or before September 30. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. is working with local agencies on scheduling a Level 3 Instructor Course for early 2009. Dates and location pending. CONTROLLED F.O.R.C.E. HATS FINALLY HERE

TRANSFER OF CERTIFICATION POLICY We at Controlled F.O.R.C.E. understand that officers can transfer to several different law enforcement agencies throughout their career. In order to track those officers that are transferring their skills and knowledge of the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. system, we have instituted a policy for certified departmental instructors that transfer agencies within the two-year certification term. CONTROLLED F.O.R.C.E. TRANSFER POLICY Any Controlled F.O.R.C.E. certified departmental instructor that transfers agencies within the two-year certification term must transfer their certification with the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. home office in order to teach the system to officers within their new agency.
JUSTIFICATION FOR TRANSFER POLICY A) In order to maintain the integrity of the system and to provide support to those who are properly trained in the system, Controlled F.O.R.C.E. must track everyone who is certified to teach the system. By maintaining adequate documentation on everyone who may potentially be teaching the system to others, Controlled F.O.R.C.E. can be fully prepared to respond should an incident ever occur where Controlled F.O.R.C.E. is asked to support an officer based on his/her use of a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. technique.
B) By completing the certification transfer process, Controlled F.O.R.C.E. certified departmental instructors are providing proper documentation that their new agency approves of the system being used by their officers.
C) By completing the certification transfer process, Controlled F.O.R.C.E. certified departmental instructors are providing proper documentation that they are approved by their new agency to transfer their skills and knowledge of the system to other officers within the agency.
