A recently published article on Military.com highlights the ongoing struggle inside the military to attract recruits.
“The Army has become more aggressive with major recruitment bonuses, especially for recruits who elect to ship out to basic training right away, as the force wrestles with numerous recruiting challenges.
The force announced on April 20 that new recruits can earn up to $10,000 bonuses for attending basic training within 30 days of their enlistment, which is called a “quick ship” bonus. That offer is open to at least 60 different jobs, double the total from earlier in the year.”

Controlled F.O.R.C.E. believes there is incredible value in skills development as it continues to increase the return on investment for new recruits. If the Army is spending on average between $2,000 – $6,000 on enlistment bonuses and increasing pay rates for personnel, then there should also be an emphasis placed on developing skills to solicit a strong and positive return on that investment.
Recruitment Challenges For Armed Forces is Not New
Since the beginning of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. military has struggled to find enough soldiers to meet its needs. The problem is not just that there are not enough people willing to serve; it’s also that too few of those who do enlist have the necessary skills.
One way to address this issue is to invest more in skill development and training for soldiers. This can help recruits be better prepared for the demands of military service and make them more valuable members of the force.
Training and Skill Development Increases Your R.O.I
Investing in skill development and training can also help reduce attrition rates. When soldiers are properly trained, they are less likely to experience burnout or to make mistakes that could get them killed or hurt. For recruiters, it’s also valuable to highlight the various opportunities for growth, training, and skills development new soldiers will receive upon enlistment.
Investing in skill development and training is not only good for the soldiers; it’s also good for the military as a whole. A well-trained force is a more effective force, and a more effective force is better able to protect our country and our interests.
