July 7–11 | Okanogan County, Washington

From July 7 to July 11, officers and correctional professionals from across the Pacific Northwest gathered in Okanogan, WA, to take part in a high-impact Controlled F.O.R.C.E.™ M.A.C.H.™ Level 1–3 Training event. Hosted on-site with the support of our Mobile Training Team, the week was packed with tactical instruction, hands-on drills, and real-world scenario-based learning.
Designed for law enforcement, corrections, and institutional security professionals, this training delivered advanced instruction in defensive tactics, cell extraction techniques, and train-the-trainer certification, making it a must-attend event for those responsible for managing risk and maintaining control in high-stakes environments.
🔎 What is the Controlled F.O.R.C.E.™ M.A.C.H.™ System?
The M.A.C.H.™ System (Mechanical Advantage Control Holds) is a nationally recognized standard in defensive tactics training, built around five core control principles that emphasize leverage, joint manipulation, and minimal use of force. The system progresses in levels—from foundational subject control to advanced countermeasures and instructional leadership.
Developed with real-world application in mind, the M.A.C.H.™ System is ideal for agencies seeking to standardize use-of-force training across patrol, transport, and detention operations.
✅ Level 1: Arrest and Control Fundamentals
Goal: Safely control compliant and non-compliant subjects using leverage, body mechanics, and team-based tactics.
The week began with the essential techniques of the M.A.C.H.™ System, empowering officers to manage confrontational encounters effectively without relying on strength or aggression.
Level 1 Training Covered:
- Escort and control transitions
- M.A.C.H.™ Levels 1–5: Joint-based control holds
- Safe takedown techniques
- M.A.C.H.™ handcuffing protocols
- Team arrest coordination
- Baton compliance techniques
- Tactical positioning and subject approach
These core tactics serve as the cornerstone of modern law enforcement training, giving officers the confidence and consistency needed to safely manage resistance in the field or facility.
✅ Level 2: Officer Survival and Threat Response
Goal: Prepare officers for violent, close-quarter encounters using defensive disruption and weapon protection techniques.
Building on Level 1, Level 2 focused on increasing officer survivability through controlled aggression, situational awareness, and reflexive decision-making.
Key Modules Included:
- Defensive hand-to-hand strikes and redirections
- Baton defense in confined spaces
- Edged weapon awareness and countermeasures
- Ground escape and recovery techniques
- In- and out-of-holster weapon retention
- Firearm and edged weapon disarmament
This level equips participants with critical skills for hand-to-hand combat, weapon defense, and rapid response when escalation is unavoidable.
✅ Level 3: Countermeasure & Instructor Development
Goal: Advance officer skills to instructor level and prepare leaders to implement M.A.C.H.™ across their agencies.
Level 3 pushed participants beyond application into mastery. Officers developed a deep understanding of advanced counter techniques while learning how to teach and evaluate others—earning defensive tactics instructor certification.
Advanced Training Included:
- Reverse application of M.A.C.H.™ Levels 1–5
- Advanced holds and transitions (Levels 6–10)
- High-threat edged weapon and firearm counter-tactics
- Unconventional drawing positions
By the end of Level 3, attendees were equipped to train their own teams using the M.A.C.H.™ curriculum—bringing the value of this train-the-trainer model back to their departments.
🚨 Cell Extraction: Precision in Confined Spaces
A key highlight of the training was the cell extraction module, which focused on high-risk inmate removal procedures. This course is essential for corrections officers and high-security response teams where physical confrontation in confined quarters is often unavoidable.
Techniques Practiced Included:
- Pre-entry planning and communication
- Stack movement and breach procedures
- M.A.C.H.™-based takedowns in close quarters
- Stabilization and restraint of combative subjects
- De-escalation and post-extraction protocols
With an emphasis on safety, control, and coordination, this portion of the training directly addressed the critical skills required in correctional facilities and secure environments.
🎯 Professional Application and Department Impact
By the end of the week, every participant walked away with enhanced tactical skills, improved confidence in physical engagements, and certification to instruct and lead others within their organizations.
Graduates of this course can now:
- Execute arrest and control procedures with reduced risk
- Lead or support planned cell extractions
- Teach M.A.C.H.™ defensive tactics within their department
- Strengthen use-of-force policies and training protocols
- Increase both officer and subject safety during high-risk encounters
