  • Interacting with Drivers Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (TCOLE 7887)

Course synopsis:
In 2015, the Texas Legislature passed SB 1987.  The bill mandated that new officers and any officer wishing to obtain an intermediate proficiency certificate complete training related to interacting with drivers who are deaf or hard of hearing. This class follows the TCOLE curriculum for this training.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
– The student will be able to: describe the procedures needed for interacting with drivers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
– define the terms “deaf” and “hard of hearing” as defined in Section 81.001 of the Texas Human Relations Code
– demonstrate the techniques that can be used to interact with drivers who are deaf or hard of hearing and how the ADA may apply.
– demonstrate practical methods of communication and aids that may be available.

Students will be presented with a thumb drive with course materials.  It is strongly recommended that attending personnel bring a lap top or other portable device to review information on the thumb drive.

Controlled F.O.R.C.E. Law Enforcement Training Center (CFLETC) is a TCOLE certified training provider.   Seating may only be reserved upon completion of registration.  Full payment is expected at the time of registration, otherwise the participant or their agency shall be invoiced upon completion of the training.  If a student must leave the class prior to completion no refund will be provided, however the student will be given an opportunity to complete the class at a later date at no additional cost to the participant or the agency.

If the attendee must withdraw due to illness or official business, or if a class should be cancelled, a full refund will be provided to the student or the agency, as appropriate, or may be applied to a future training class, at the discretion of the attendee.
